Hardware Requirements

The following table represents the recommended memory, disk space, and CPU requirements for running a CA SOI implementation of approximately the following size:

• 200,000-400,000 total CIs
• 100,000 managed CIs
• 5,000 services
• 10,000 open managed alerts
• 50,000 unmanaged alerts (not service impacting)
• Alert rate of 5-30 alerts per second

These requirements are not the minimums and are instead the recommended best practice for sustaining the optimal product performance for this size of implementation. Adjust the requirements as necessary to fit your implementation.

The System column lists the individual systems that can exist, depending on how you deployed the product components. See the descriptions below the table for information about each system configuration and recommendations.

Note: Due to memory limitations on 32-bit operating systems, many of the best-practice memory recommendations require a 64-bit operating system. However, the product is certified to work within the memory limits of a 32-bit operating system with a reduced capacity.

All systems

For the optimal performance, run CA SOI on systems with at least two separate disk drives:

• Disk1—OS with swap space or virtual memory
• Disk2—all CA SOI components

SA Manager

The SA Manager system includes the SA Manager component. The SA Manager includes the CA Catalyst Logic Server and Registry, ActiveMQ Server, Mid-tier connector, Service Discovery, Event Management, and the Universal connector. This system can optionally include CA EEM and Microsoft SQL Server hosting the SA Store database. Consider the following items when planning your SA Manager installation:

• You can install CA EEM remotely, which can be a requirement where CA EEM is to support security requirements outside of CA SOI.

You can install SQL Server remotely. In particular, where SQL Server is part of mid- to large-scale CA SOI deployments, it is a shared database server, or it is included in a SQL cluster to meet high availability requirements. A local installation of SQL Server is preferred for a small-scale installation of CA SOI (managing less than 60,000 CIs). Follow the hardware and software requirements that Microsoft recommends for your SQL Server version.

• If the SQL Server is on a separate system, the SA Store database requires a minimum of 25-GB hard disk space. The disk space requirements for the database grow over time. The growth is due to the number of managed services, CIs, and alerts increases. The database contains tables that keep a record of historical data. To control the database growth, perform a periodic maintenance. For database sizing and maintenance recommendations, see the Administration Guide.

UI Server

The UI Server system includes the UI Server component.

CA Business Intelligence

The CA Business Intelligence system includes CA Business Intelligence, which provides the reporting application BusinessObjects Enterprise InfoView, and the CA SOI Reports component. Consider the following items when planning your CA Business Intelligence and reports installation:

• The 10 GB of temporary hard disk space is only required during the CA Business Intelligence installation. By default, this hard disk space is assigned to the folder of the TEMP environment variable on your system. If you must assign the temporary space to a different drive, you can temporarily change the TEMP environment variable folder before installation
• Each language pack that you install with the product adds approximately 200-300 MB to the permanent hard disk space requirement.
• If you plan to install multiple BusinessObjects products on same system, all products automatically install to the same drive as the first installed product. Therefore, install the BusinessObjects Enterprise first and on the drive to which you want all other BusinessObjects components to install.

Connector

A connector system has one or more connectors that are installed on the associated domain manager system or a remote system. Consider the following items when planning connector installations:

• When you install more than one connector on a connector host, add approximately 200-300 MB of memory and hard disk space to this requirement for each connector.
• As a best practice, connectors that are installed on the same computer must not exceed 200,000 total CIs.

Standalone deployment

You can install all CA SOI components on the same system for demonstration and proof-of-concept (PoC) requirements. A standalone installation does not include CA Business Intelligence, which must always be installed on a separate system. Consider the following items when planning a standalone deployment:

• The required hard disk space for a standalone installation varies depending on the following items:
  • The number of connectors that are installed on the standalone system
  • The size and location of the SA Store database
  • The size of your implementation
• Many connectors require installation on the same system as their domain manager.
