Verify User Privileges

Verify that you have the privileges to administer the cluster. In most cases, unless further lockdown is required, Domain Admin rights are sufficient to run the High Availability Toolkit in a Windows 2003 cluster environment. In a Windows 2008 cluster environment, additional privileges may be required.

Follow these steps:

  1. Open Cluster Administrator in the Windows 2003 cluster or Failover Cluster Management in the Windows 2008 cluster.

If you are unable to open the program or you do not have the necessary privileges, then contact your system administrator.

  2. Add a dummy cluster resource.

If you are able to add the dummy cluster resource, you do have required privileges.

Note: Delete the dummy cluster resource after adding it successfully.

  3. Verify that the domain user is a part of the Local Administrators group.
  4. To update user privileges, either by promoting a domain user to a domain admin user or granting special privileges, log out and log in again.
