Service Modeling

You can model services that are based on CI data that you import from the connectors. Service modeling is a highly flexible task that lets you define the following items:

• The objects (CIs, groups, and subservices) that make up a service
• The relationships and how the impact propagates between all objects in the service
• The significance of each object relative to other objects
• The service granularity, which determines whether the service aggregates alerts associated with related but unmodeled CIs
• Other service properties

Propagation helps determine when and how a failure condition in one object affects other objects to which it is connected. Significance helps determine the service level impact that a failure condition causes on a specific object.

You create services using the Service Modeler. Access the Modeler from the Operations Console in any of the following ways:

• Select Tools, Create New Service.
• Right-click the Services node in the Services tab and select Create New Service.
• Right-click any existing service in the Services tab and select Create New Service or Edit Service.

The Modeler provides drag-and-drop functionality for adding objects to services and tools for creating relationships, applying significance, validating service models, and controlling how the service model topology appears.
