CA Business Intelligence Installation Considerations
BusinessObjects is delivered within the CA Business Intelligence product. Review the following considerations when installing CA Business Intelligence for CA SOI reporting:
- A typical CA Business Intelligence installation requires approximately six hours and two hours per language pack.
- CA Business Intelligence requires 10 GB of temporary hard disk space during the installation plus the permanent space that is required for a complete installation. By default, the temporary space is assigned to the folder of the TEMP environment variable on your system. If you are going to assign the temporary space to a different drive, you can temporarily change the TEMP environment variable folder before installation. For more information about system requirements, see the Release Notes.
- If you plan to install multiple BusinessObjects products on the same system, all products automatically install to the same drive as the first installed product. Therefore, install BusinessObjects Enterprise first on the drive to which you want all other BusinessObjects components to install.
- BusinessObjects is typically installed with the following products:
- r3.2: MySQL as the BusinessObjects Central Management Server Database
- r3.3: SQLAnywhere as the BusinessObjects Central Management Server Database
- Apache Tomcat as the application server
Advanced CA Business Intelligence users may want to perform a custom installation that lets you configure the BusinessObjects Enterprise reporting software to use an existing database. An existing database can use a Microsoft SQL Server database, or you can use an existing application server, including IIS. However, we do not recommend IIS due to prior security issues. For more information about how to use these custom configurations, see the CA Business Intelligence Implementation Guide.
- Problems can occur when installing CA Business Intelligence from a mapped drive. To avoid potential issues, install CA Business Intelligence from a local drive.
- If you install CA Business Intelligence to an empty drive, you can receive a Validating Disk Space Requirements message. To fix the error, place any file on to the drive.
- An intermittent fatal error dialog can open during the installation. Click OK and the installation should complete successfully.
- Do not install the CA SOI Reports on a CA Spectrum 8.1 server. For a CA Spectrum 9.0 or 9.1 server, contact CA Support for the correct procedures.
- BusinessObjects may not connect to the SA Store database after installing the CA SOI reports. This occurs because the database is on a named instance and the SQL Browser service is not running or the database server is on a different network than the BusinessObjects server. To ensure a successful connection in this situation, select Administrative Tools, Data Sources (ODBC) on the BusinessObjects report server and add the instance name to the SAMStore DSN (for example, dbserver\myinstance).
- If you installed the SA Store database using a port other than the default (1433), use ODBC to add the port number. For example: XXXDB.ca.com,56748.
