Creating the policy is a required task in the process of creating and maintaining policies to achieve policy driven request management. A policy can apply to an individual request.
To create a policy
The main Policy Builder page appears.
Note: If the policy applies to a specific business unit only, create the policy in the most appropriate folder for that business unit.
The Add Policy dialog appears.
Examples include For Laptops under $1,000, For smart phones in the Finance Department, or For All Virtual Machine Requests.
The policy is created and appears under the parent folder. The policy fields appear, ready for your input.
An example follows: "Requests of laptops that cost $1,000 or more require approval of the Vice President of Financial Operations."
Alternatively, you can specify descriptions emphasizing assignees rather than conditions. An example follows: "Requires approval of the Vice President of Financial Operations: Requests of laptops over $1,000."
Important! Intuitive policy names and meaningful descriptions are critical for efficient use and reuse of policies across your organization!
Note: When a user submits a request, CA Service Catalog checks for and applies any matching high-priority policies. The policy applies if it contains a condition that the request meets. Examples include a laptop costing over $1,000 and a request from a user in the Facilities user group or in the Western Sales region. Only if no high-priority policy applies to the request, the system checks for and applies any matching low-priority policies.
You have created the policy and are ready to complete its details.
