When the MDB does not already exist and an MDB-r1.0.4-adopter product installs, the entire MDB r1.0.4 schema is installed, even portions that are not used by that MDB adopter product. If the MDB is already installed and is at version r1.0.4, schema modifications that include those required by that MDB adopter product are installed via MDB r1.0.4 patches. When a different MDB-r1.0.4-adopter product is installed, the MDB already exists; in that case, only required MDB r1.0.4 patches that are included in the embedded MDB image are installed.
MDB r1.5 introduced the possibility of installing a partial MDB by designating a set of named schemas that define the MDB, rather than a single all-inclusive schema.
When the MDB does not already exist and an MDB r1.5-adopter product installs, only the portion of MDB r1.5 that is required by the adopter product may be installed. That portion consists of a subset of named schemas. These schemas include a few that must always be embedded in an MDB-r1.5-adopter product and at least one that applies only to the MDB-r1.5-adopter product. The required common schemas are named MDB Base and Common Asset; MDB104 is also a common schema and may be optionally included. Any subsequent patches that are installed apply only to the installed subset of schemas.
