How to Generate a Policy Key File

This procedure applies only if you are using CA Workflow to open change orders during request fulfillment; otherwise, skip this procedure.

If you are using PKI-based access control and if you need to update the user name or password values that CA Service Catalog uses to communicate with CA Service Desk Manager, updating them in the CA Service Desk Manager CA Workflow process definitions is required.

In CA Workflow, the CA Service Catalog process definitions in CA Service Desk Manager communicate with CA Service Desk Manager using the CA Service Desk Manager web services. The CA Service Desk Manager login web service is used to establish a session. By default, the user name and password for that web service are both ServiceDesk.

  1. In CA Service Desk Manager, as the CA Service Desk Manager admin, create a new Web Service Policy (a new policy key file), according to the instructions in the CA Service Desk Manager documentation.

Doing so create a certificate file that CA Service Catalog uses in all its CA Workflow process definitions and actors to log in to CA Service Desk Manager.

The policy file name is based on the policy code specified in the CA Service Desk Manager configuration UI, for example, USM_SD_Policy.

  2. Open a Windows command prompt and access %SERVICE_DESK_HOME%\bin.
  3. Run the following command:
    pdm_pki -p USM_SD_Policy

This action creates a policy file named USM_SD_Policy.p12.

  4. Copy the policy file named USM_SD_Policy.p12 to USM_HOME.

Note: CA Service Desk Manager also provides other web service authentication mechanisms for maintaining user names and passwords. For details, see the CA Service Desk Manager documentation.
