Inheritance of Service Option Groups

You can use inheritance to create service option group. The inherited (dependent) service option group has the same characteristics as the parent service option group from which it was created. However, the items of the dependent service option elements appear in blue. The blue color indicates that these items are inherited and have not been changed since they were copied.

The following rules apply to the inheritance relationship:

• If you update the details of the parent service option group, the Catalog system automatically makes the same updates to the dependent service option group. The updated values of the parent replace any existing values in the dependent service option group, except the name.
• You can manually update important details of the dependent service option group, including its name, definition, and service option elements. However, if you update these specifications in the dependent service option group, you break the inheritance relationship. If this relationship breaks, then changes to the parent no longer propagate automatically to the formerly dependent service option group.

  When you manually update an inherited item, its color temporarily changes from blue to red. The red color indicates the following:

  • The item was originally inherited but has been changed manually.
  • Consequently, its inheritance relationship is broken.

  After the initial manual update, the temporary red color changes to black. The black color indicates that the item is a base (non-inherited) item.
