Removal of Heartbeat Mechanism

To optimize the orchestrator and agent performance, the heartbeat exchange that occurred between agents and the domain orchestrator has now been removed. With this change, the operator execution no longer depends on the status of the agent.

Heartbeat removal eliminates the need for heartbeat processing on the domain orchestrator which had significant performance impact with larger numbers of agents. To obtain an overall view of the current status of one or more agents, an Agent Management console has been added to provide on-demand status for selected agents.

As part of this enhancement, the following changes were implemented in the user interface:

• The Heartbeat Interval field in the Properties tab for an agent has been removed.
• The Agent Configuration Update Interval (minutes) field has been added to the Properties tab of the Domain in the Configuration Browser. The field lets you define the frequency at which the domain orchestrator checks and, if appropriate, sends configuration updates to agents.
• The Status field in the Properties tab for an agent no longer displays Active or Inactive status.
• The Agent icon in the Configuration Browser no longer reflects the Active or Inactive status. Similarly, the agent icons in the Agents tab for a Touchpoint no longer reflects the Active or Inactive status.
• You can now delete the agents that are active or inactive from the Bulk Agent Removal dialog that is located in the Domain hierarchy.
• The changes that are made to the Touchpoint icon in the Domain hierarchy are as follows:
  • Green: Indicates that the touchpoints are associated with agents.
  • Red: Indicates that the touchpoints are not associated with agents.
  • Yellow: Displays when some agents are quarantined and some agents are non-quarantined.

    Note: The changes that are made to the Touchpoint icon are reflected for the Touchpoint groups and Host groups.

The OasisConfig.properties file is changed. During agent installation, the OasisConfig.properties file does not contain the itpam.initialperiodichearbeatfrequency property.
