Assign or Remove Event Rules to Monitoring Profiles

Global administrators can assign and remove event rules to and from monitoring profiles. When event rules are assigned to monitoring profiles that are associated to device collections, event rules that are included in the monitoring profile are activated. Events are raised and cleared when the devices in the collection satisfy event rule conditions.

Note: Log in as the administrator to perform this task.

Follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the list of all monitoring profiles in CA Performance Center.
  2. Select a custom monitoring profile.

Note: Factory monitoring profiles cannot be edited or deleted; only custom monitoring profiles can be modified.

  3. Click the Event Rules tab.

A list of event rules is populated.

  4. To create a rule or to copy an existing rule, do the following steps:
    1. Click New to create a rule or click Edit to modify an existing rule.
    2. Type or modify a unique rule name and type or modify a description. Unique naming is enforced within the context of a given monitoring profile.
    3. Enter or modify the Metric Family, Duration, Window, and Severity information, as required:
      Duration (sec)

Indicates the amount of time a given condition must be true within the specified Window for Data Aggregator to generate an event.

      Default: 300 seconds

      Window (sec)

Indicates the overall range of time, in seconds, to evaluate the rule condition.

      Default: 300 seconds

Note: The list of metric families is limited to the metric families that are included in the associated monitoring profile.

    4. Enter values for or modify the fields for the following sections:
A violation occurs when all of these conditions are met

Indicates the criteria that the rule condition or conditions, must meet for a violation to occur. When a violation occurs, a Threshold Violation Raised event is generated.

      A violation is cleared when

Indicates the criteria that the rule condition must meet to clear an existing violation. When a violation is cleared, a Threshold Violation Cleared event is generated.

      Click Save.

  5. To edit an existing rule, click Edit. Modify the fields as necessary and click Save.

If a configuration change is made to existing event rules that renders an event no longer applicable (such as removing an event rule from a monitoring profile), the event is not cleared within the poll cycle. These events are cleared once a day between the 3 and 4 AM hour (depending on the poll rate).

Note: Events that are cleared because the threshold condition no longer exists are still cleared within the poll cycle.

  6. To remove an event rule from a monitoring profile, select the event rule and click Delete. The event rule is removed from the system.

Event rules are assigned to, or removed from, monitoring profiles.

When a monitoring profile is associated to a device collection, event rules that are included in the monitoring profile are activated. Events are raised and cleared when the devices in the collection satisfy event rule conditions.
