Edit a Dynamic Trend View

Dynamic trend views contain no data until you edit them to select settings.

Follow these steps:

  1. Click the Edit icon Click the Edit icon to change view settings. on the dynamic view, and select Edit.

    The View Settings dialog opens.

  2. The Context Type list indicates the managed item context. By default, the context is Device. Select another option if desired.

    The Context that you select constrains your subsequent options.

  3. Replace the default view Title with text to describe the dynamic view.
  4. Select the View Type. The view type determines the chart format.

    The following options are available for the chart format:

  5. Select a Metric Family for the view. The Metric Family is the type of data that you want to display in the view. By default, the Metric Family is Availability.

    Note: Trend data in dynamic views represents averages of metric values across all items that are included.

  6. Select a Metric Value for the view. The Metric Value determines the units, such as "Percentage" or "Bytes". Take the following steps:
    1. Select a metric value from the Metric Value Available list.
    2. Double-click to add it to the Metric Value Selected list.

    The selected metric value appears in the Metric Value Selected list.

    Note: By default, filtering is enabled to display only metrics that are consistent with the default roll-up strategy. To select metrics that do not conform, clear the Metric Filtering check box. When the selected metrics do not conform, the dialog displays an informational message in the header.

  7. Select a Resolution option.

    The Resolution is the amount of time that each data point in the chart represents.

    Note: Some data sources let you set a polling rate for managed items. If you select a resolution that is smaller than the polling rate, the query is adjusted automatically. The view then shows the smallest resolution for the available data.

  8. Select a Chart Type option.

    A trend line or stacked line is rendered for each device or component metric.

  9. Select the managed items to include in the view. Take the following steps:
    1. Click Items or Groups. If you select Groups, any groups you select are filtered. Only the items in those groups whose type matches the item context you selected are included for reporting.
    2. Click Add/Remove Items to display a list of managed items, which are filtered by item type.

      Note: Only the managed items that are included in your permission groups are displayed.

    3. Click to select managed items from the list, and then click Add.

      The items that you selected appear in the Selected [Items] pane.

    4. Click OK to return to the Dynamic View Settings dialog.

      The items that you selected appear in the list of Items to Include. Only these items are queried for performance data.

    Note: To remove an item, click Add/Remove Items to return to the Add/Remove Items dialog. Select the item or group in the Selected pane, and click Remove.

  10. Select the scope of your changes from the Apply Changes drop-down. Select one of the following options:

    Note: The availability of these options depends on your user account role rights.

  11. Click Save.

    The view refreshes to reflect your updates.

    Click the Edit icon Click the Edit icon to change view settings., and select Show/Hide List of Selected Items to switch between the chart view and a list of the items that you selected to include.
