SSM resource tables contain the CHKPOINT_STATE column. The CHKPOINT_STATE value mirrors the desired state, and SSM updates the checkpoint state each time the desired state value changes. Therefore, when SSM becomes active, you can reset the DESIRED_STATE columns to the values they had when SSM was last active.
For example, a system problem occurs and you must perform an emergency IPL. After SSM becomes active again, it sets the current state and desired state values to table-relative UNKNOWN, and you can then reset the DESIRED_STATE values to what they were before the emergency IPL by copying the values from the CHKPOINT_STATE column into the DESIRED_STATE column.
