Get Information from Generic Devices

The NEWS : Generic Device Support menu lets you view link test statistics, summary error data, communication adapter error statistics, and EC level information.

Access NEWS : Generic Device Support Menu

To access the NEWS : Generic Device Support Menu

  1. Enter /DEVSUPP at the command prompt.

    The SNA : Device Support Diagnosis Menu appears.

  2. Enter G at the command prompt.

    The NEWS : Generic Device Support menu appears.

This menu contains the following options:

1 - Link Test Statistics

Counts associated with the processing of Link-Level-2 (LL2) tests.

2- Summary Error Data

Counts which detail various hardware and communications problems.

3 - Communication Adapter Error Statistics

Counts which detail the number and types of errors associated with a PU’s communication adapter.

4 - EC Level Information

Information about a PU’s engineering change level, such as its microcode level or installed patches and RPQs.

Note: If the PU to be solicited is a 3174 or equivalent, then use option 4 twice to receive all EC and RPQ information.

5 - All of the Above

Solicits all the information described in options 1 to 4. Press F3 to scroll through the panels.

6 - 386X Link Status Test

Issues a request for IBM 386X modem equipment to perform a link status test to provide its view of line quality.

7 - 386X DTE Test

Requests IBM 386X modems to report on the remote DTE interface.

This menu contains the following fields:

Node Name

Specifies the name of the PU from which you want to solicit the information. The PU must be active and owned by this VTAM.

NCP Name

Specifies the name of the NCP that controls the resource name above. For installations using ACF/VTAM, if this field is omitted the procedure attempts to determine the NCP name using VTAM displays and then proceeds with the request.

Note: Applies to Options 6 and 7 only.

Reset Counters?

Enter Y if you want to reset the counters in the PU; otherwise enter N . Entering Y causes the PU to reset its counters for the category or categories selected after successful transmission.

Results

Specifies where the results are displayed and recorded.

Link Name or SSCP Name

Specify to route the request to a remote host. If both these fields are omitted, the request is sent to the local host.
