Best Practices
Best Practices
Applies to CA6000 and CA6300 appliances
To minimize hardware issues:
- Always shut down the Vertica metrics database before shutting down or restarting the appliance.
- Ensure that the appliance is properly protected from unexpected power off conditions by implementing UPS redundancy.
- Ensure that the appliance is operating within environmental specifications.
- Check the RAID status for SCSI disk errors or failures at regular intervals. RAID status information is available from:
- The System Status page of the Multi-Port Monitor web interface
- The Linux system logs
If errors or failures occur:
- Recover Degraded RAID arrays as soon as possible.
- Attempt recovery from SCSI disk corruption errors.
- Replace failed drives as soon as possible to restore full system performance.
- For notification of a RAID array returning to Optimal state following a rebuild, edit SNMP Traps. Change the mtpRAIDTrap severity to change the minimum severity level to Info. By default, the Multi-Port Monitor sends a SNMP trap if an array is in a Degraded state, but does not send a SNMP trap following a successful rebuild.
Note that a SNMP trap is not sent when an array has Failed Stripes because the Adaptec RAID controllers that are in the appliance do not consider this to be a Degraded state.
