Always assess the hardware status of the CA Multi-Port Monitor appliance before you upgrade. If either RAID array has a Degraded or Failed status, do not upgrade CA Multi-Port Monitor until you have restored both RAID arrays to Optimal status.
Assess the hardware status before installing:
Restart the appliance to properly assess the hardware status. The system BIOS performs boot-time hardware scans that reveal issues with the following components:
A new appliance, the CA6300, is available beginning with CA MTP version 10.1. This document discusses how you assess the hardware status of the new CA6300 appliance and the legacy CA6000 appliance.
The CA6300 hardware for the CA Multi-Port Monitor has a single Adaptec® RAID 7805Q controller with two RAID arrays, System and Data.
The CA6000 hardware for the CA Multi-Port Monitor has two RAID controllers:
This document is intended to aid recovery of the two RAID arrays (System and Data) before permanent and irretrievable data loss occurs that impacts subsequent software upgrades or the overall function of the monitoring device.
To determine if you have a legacy CA6000 MTP hardware appliance or a new CA6300 MTP hardware appliance, run the lspci command from a command prompt:
/sbin/lspci | grep Adaptec
If two RAID bus controllers are shown, the appliance is a CA6000 appliance.
If one RAID bus controller is shown, the appliance is a CA6300 appliance.
