Alert thresholds are used to select job steps for measurement and can be set against the measured use of resources (absolute alert thresholds) and/or the rate of use of resources (performance index alert thresholds). Either way, when a threshold is exceeded, the job step will be selected for measurement.
Depending on whether you use the batch jobs or the Server to perform the alert activities, the thresholds are used to trigger actions against current job step activities (dynamic alert) and/or to set up actions for the next execution (step end alert).
