6.1.3 NetView Hardware Monitor/NPDA
Tivoli NetView Hardware Monitor/NPDA provides diagnostic and
reliability data, including component error statistics and
traffic volume. Its online functions are designed to assist
network operations in resolving problems quickly.
The CA MICS Network Analyzer Option supports NetView Hardware
Monitor, which writes the SMF type 37 reports record
containing the following data types:
o Statistics are records of communications traffic and
temporary (recoverable) errors.
o Events (generic and standard) are either specific errors
reported by communications devices or statistics that
exceeded the data-center-defined threshold for the
error-to-traffic ratio.
o Alerts are events that qualify for alert status as a
result of the analysis by a user-defined Alert recording
filter.
The CA MICS Network Analyzer Option supports data from the
following SMF type 37 tables:
+-----------------------------------------------------------+
| Table | |
| Number | Report Format Supported |
|--------|--------------------------------------------------|
| 27 | Product |
| 28 | Alert |
| 29 | Generic Event |
| 30 | Event |
| 31 | Statistical |
| 36 | LAN |
+-----------------------------------------------------------+
To log NetView Hardware Monitor/NPDA records to SMF, follow
the procedures in the OPERATOR=900 Tivoli Netview
documentation for writing the type 37 record to the SMF
external log. Also, tailor the NetView Hardware Monitor's
recording filters to control the quality and the volume of
data recorded.
See the Tivoli NetView Online help to define SRATIO, which
sets the error-to-traffic ratio thresholds for generating
alert messages, and SRFILTER, which controls what data is
recorded.
