6.6 Case Studies

This section presents three case studies that illustrate how
to use the simple regression plots for resource forecasting.
The first study, Extended Example I/O Workload Analysis,
applies the technique to the analysis of the 9021-711 I/O
workload that we originally introduced in Section 3.3.3.1.
The second study, JES Spool, looks at trends in JES remote
printer use. The final study, Application Tracking, shows an
example of the simple regression technique used to track the
CPU consumption of a critical application system.
