6.3.1.1.5 Network Data Transmissions Records

Type 0C (network data transmissions) records are produced for
any virtual machine user with NETAccounting or NETRouter
specified as an option in their user directory. Type 0C
records are created when accounting is invoked using the CP
ACNT command or when a field in the accounting record is
about to overflow; and the user has sent or received data
from a Network device.

These accounting records provide information about the Linux
use of system resources, such as the use of virtual network
devices. Virtual network devices include coupled Virtual
Channel to Channel Adaptors, IUCV connections, and Virtual
Network Interface Cards (NIC), sometimes known as Guest LANs.

The content of the type 0C records depends on the type of
Network device being used for the data transmission; and
there are three different Network device formats depending on
the value of byte 78 in each record.

 Column 78 Network Device
 --------- --------------
    x'00' Virtual NIC
x'01' Virtual Channel to Channel Adaptor
    x'02' ICUV or APPC/VM

Accounting records produced when a data transfer occurred
through a Virtual NIC have four additional sub-formats
determined by the value in byte 77, called the data
descriptor.

 Column 77 Data Descriptor
 --------- ---------------
x'00' Bytes sent to or received from Routers
x'01' Bytes sent to or received from non-Routers
x'02' Bytes sent to or received via Broadcast
x'03' Bytes sent to or received via Multicast
