Functional Characteristics › Output Files
Output Files
CA JARS Wizard can be used to copy, merge, modify, or summarize data files. It writes records to the new file. Data values can be added, deleted, or modified along the way. Records can be added, deleted, or reblocked.
The following variations are possible:
- Every record in the input file can be copied into a new file, with or without modifications.
- Selected records can be processed and output into a new file.
- An output summary record can be written out at control break time and contain summary information for the control group.
- Selected fields from the input record can be specified to comprise the output record.
- Two files can be merged. CA JARS Wizard reads the file to be updated and copies it into the output file without change. The records from the primary file are processed as specified and added at the end of the output file. Note that the records from the two files are not sorted together in the output file; they are simply appended to each other.
- A new file can be created according to a glossary definition. Fields in the output file glossary are referred to by the O prefix.
Note: For more information on the output functions, see the OUTPUT statement discussion in the "Control Statements" chapter.
