Select Members of a Subject Area

You use the Members tab in the Subject Area Editor to identify the entities, tables, and views that are members of a subject area. The Available Objects section displays the available entities, tables, views that can be members of the selected subject area. The Included Objects section displays the entities, tables, and views that are currently members of the selected subject area.

Note: When you add members to a subject area, the objects are not added to the corresponding diagram automatically. You must add the objects manually.

To select the members of a subject area

1. Click Subject Areas on the Model menu.

   The Subject Area Editor opens.

2. Click the Members tab.
3. Select a subject area from the Subject Area list to which you want to add members, and work with the following options:

   Note: Use the toolbar to sort objects or toggle the display of names.

   Automatically populate with all model objects

   Specifies to automatically populate the selected subject area with all members from the Available Objects section.

   Available Objects

   Displays objects that you can include as members of the selected subject area. Select one of the following options to include members to the subject area:

   Move selected objects to Included Objects

   Moves the selected objects to the Included Objects section.

   Move all objects to Included Objects

   Moves all the objects in the Available Objects section to the Included Objects section.

   Move selected objects and neighboring objects to Included Objects

   Moves the selected objects and neighboring objects to the Included Objects section. When you click this icon, the Spanning Neighborhood dialog opens. Work with the following options in the Spanning Neighborhood dialog and click Add when you are done.

   Ancestors

   Lets you specify the number of ancestors to include in the subject area. Ancestors are the parents of an entity. Select All or select Level and enter the number of ancestors to include.

   Descendants

   Lets you specify the number of descendants to include in the subject area. Descendants are the children of an entity. Select All or select Level and enter the number of descendants to include.

   Include all objects contained in another subject area

   Includes all objects contained in another subject area in the model. When you click this toolbar icon, a dialog opens that contains a drop-down control for you to select the other subject area from which to include objects.

   Included Objects

   Displays objects that are currently included as members of the selected subject area. Select one of the following options to remove members from the subject area:

   Move selected objects to Available Objects

   Removes the selected object from the Included Objects section and moves it to the Available Objects section.

   Move all objects to Available Objects

   Removes all the objects from the Included Objects section and moves them to the Available Objects section.

   Move selected objects and neighboring objects to Available Objects

   Removes the selected objects and neighboring objects from the Included Objects section and moves them to the Available Objects section. When you click this icon, the Spanning Neighborhood dialog opens. Work with the following options in the Spanning Neighborhood dialog and click Remove when you are done.

   Ancestors

   Lets you specify the number of ancestors to exclude from the subject area. Select All or select Level and enter the number of ancestors to exclude.

   Descendants

   Lets you specify the number of descendants to exclude from the subject area. Select All or select Level and enter the number of descendants to exclude.

   Remove all objects contained in another Subject Area

   Removes all objects contained in another subject area in the model. When you click this toolbar icon, a dialog opens that contains a drop-down control for you to select the subject area from which to remove objects.

   Edit the selected object

   Opens the property editor for the selected object so that you can edit object properties.

4. Click Close.

   Subject area members are defined and the Subject Area Editor closes.
