Include an Entity as a Member of a Subject Area using the Model Explorer

You can create or modify subject areas, and include entities as members of subject areas using the Model Explorer. When you include an object as a member of a subject area, rather than creating a copy of an object, you are including a pointer to the original object. Any changes you make to the original object are made to the members as well; and, any changes you make to the members are made to the original object as well. For example, if your model includes an Accounting subject area and you create a Production subject area, you can include members from the Accounting subject area.

If the default action is not to include the object as a member of a subject area, you can manually override the default to include the object as a member.

To include an entity as a member of a subject area

1. Expand the Subject Areas folder in the Model Explorer Model view.

   The subject areas display.

2. Select the entity that you want to include as a member of another subject area, press and hold the Ctrl key and drag the entity to the subject area in which you want to include it as a member.

   The entity is now a member of both subject areas.

   Note: If you drag an entity without pressing the Ctrl key, the entity will be deleted from the source subject area and moved to the destination subject area.
