Edit User Notes or View Object History

The Notes tab in the object's property editor lets you view history information and view or edit user notes. In this tab, you can enter text for documentation purposes in the Notes area; the History area tracks changes made to the object on various events in the model. The following events are tracked in this tab:

To edit user notes or view object history

  1. Open the property editor for the object for which you want to edit user notes or view history, and select the object in the Navigation Grid.
  2. Click the Notes tab and work with the following options:
    Sort Button on Notes Tab Toolbar Sort

    Lets you sort the events on one of the following options:

    Creation Date Ascending

    Specifies to sort the list in the ascending order (old to new) of the creation date.

    Creation Date Descending

    Specifies to sort the list in the descending order (new to old) of the creation date.

    Modification Date Ascending

    Specifies to sort the list in the ascending order (old to new) of the modification date.

    Modification Date Descending

    Specifies to sort the list in the descending order (new to old) of the modification date.

    Note Order

    Enables the four options related to moving notes.

    Filter Button Filter

    Lets you specify how to filter the list using the following options:

    Filter Button All

    Specifies to show all events.

    Filter Button Drop-Down--History Only Option History Only

    Specifies to show only history events.

    Filter Button Drop-Down--Notes Only Option Notes Only

    Specifies to show only notes.

    New icon in property editors to create a new object New

    Opens the Notes editor for the object so you can enter a new user note.

    property editor DELETE button

    Deletes the selected item.

    Inherit Button for Restoring Property Inheritance

    Specifies to reset property inheritance for the selected item and lets you restore all the deleted notes. This option is available only in the Column Editor dialog.

    Note: The following four options related to moving the item are available only when you select Note Order for Sort Items.

    Up Arrow_Up to Top of List

    Moves the selected item to the top of the list.

    Up Arrow_Up One Position in List

    Moves the selected item up one position in the list.

    Down Arrow_Down One Position in List

    Moves the selected item down one position in the list.

    Down Arrow_Down to Bottom of List

    Moves the selected item to the bottom of the list.

    Text Editor Icon Edit

    Opens the Notes editor so you can edit note text for an event or existing user note.

    Event

    Displays the event for the object.

    Status

    Displays the status of the comment in the form of icon. The status can be inherited (erw_hlp--sql 2005 table index options tab--inherit button--SCR) or overridden (Override a data type in the model editor). This option is available only in the Column Editor dialog.

    Comment

    Displays the text of the user note.

    Migrate

    Migrates the note from the parent column if this check box is selected in the parent column. For example, suppose in a table named User, you added a note to the column User_ID and have selected the Migrate check box. When you use User_ID as a foreign key in another table, the note is displayed. This option is available only in the Column Editor dialog.

    Date Created

    Displays when the event was created.

    Created By

    Displays the user that created the event.

    Modified By

    Displays the user that last modified the event.

  3. Click Close.

    The property editor closes.
