Define DB2 LUW Service Classes

You can use the DB2 for LUW Service Class Editor to create and define properties for DB2 LUW Service Classes.

Note: This topic applies to DB2 for LUW versions 9.5 and 9.7 only.

To define a DB2 LUW service class

  1. Right-click a Service Class in the Model Explorer and select Properties.

The DB2 for LUW Service Class Editor opens.

  2. Select a service class name and work with the following options:

Note: Click New New icon in property editors to create a new object on the toolbar to create a service class. Use the Enter filter text text box to filter a large list of names to locate the one you want to work with.

    Name

Specifies the name of the service class.

    Enabled

Specifies whether or not the selected service class is enabled.

    Generate

Specifies whether or not to generate DDL for this object during Forward Engineering.

  3. Click the General tab to work with the following properties:
    Agent Priority

Specifies the value for thread priority of the agents in the service class, relative to the normal priority of DB2 threads.

    Prefetch Priority Type

Specifies the prefetch priority of the agents in the service class. Select a value from the drop-down list; valid values are Default, High, Medium, and Low.

    Outbound Correlator

Specifies the string used to associate threads from the service class with an operating system workload manager service class.

    Bufferpool Priority Type

Specifies the bufferpool priority of pages fetched by activities in this service class. Select a value from the drop-down list; valid values are Default, High, Medium, or Low.

    Collect Activity Data Type

Specifies the activity data type collected: None, Without Details, With Details, With Details and Values, With Details and Section, With Details and Section and Values.

    Collect Aggregate Activity Data Type

Specifies the aggregate activity data type that the service class collects. Select a value from the drop-down list; valid values are None, Base, and Extended.

    Collect Aggregate Request Data Type

Specifies the aggregate request data that the service class collects. Select a value from the drop-down list; valid values are None and Base.

    Collect Request Metrics Type

Specifies that monitor metrics are collected for any request submitted by a connection that is associated with the specified service superclass. Valid values are None, Base, Extended.

  4. Click the Histogram Template tab to work with the following histogram-related properties. Select a histogram from the drop-down list for:
    Activity Lifetime Histogram Template

Specifies the template that describes the histogram used to collect statistical data about the duration, in microseconds, of DB2 activities running in the service class during a specific interval. Create or select from the drop-down list.

    Activity Queue Histogram Template

Specifies the template that describes the histogram used to collect statistical data about the length of time, in microseconds, that DB2 activities running in the service class are queued during a specific interval.

    Activity Execute Time Histogram Template

Specifies the template that describes the histogram used to collect statistical data about the length of time, in microseconds, that DB2 activities running in the service class are executing during a specific interval.

    Request Execute Time Histogram Template

Specifies the template that describes the histogram used to collect statistical data about the length of time, in microseconds, that DB2 requests running in the service class are executing during a specific interval.

    Activity Estimated Cost Histogram Template

Specifies the template that describes the histogram used to collect statistical data about the estimated cost, in timerons, of DML activities running in the service class.

Activity Inter Arrival Time Histogram Template

Specifies the template that describes the histogram used to collect statistical data about the length of time, in microseconds, between the arrival of one DML activity and the arrival of the next DML activity.

  5. Click the Sub Service Classes tab and work with the following options:
    Name

Specifies the name of the sub service class; this class is a child of the selected service class.

    Enabled

Specifies whether or not the selected service class is enabled.

    Generate

Specifies whether or not to generate DDL for this object during Forward Engineering.

  6. Click the Comment tab and enter any comments you want associated with the service class.
  7. Click the UDP tab to work with user-defined properties for the service class.
  8. Click the Where Used tab to view where a service class is used in the model.
  9. Click the Notes tab to view history information and view or edit user notes.
  10. Click Close.

The DB2 for LUW Service Class Editor closes.
