Create a Supertype-Subtype Identifying Relationship Using a Transformation

The Supertype Subtype Identity transformation can be applied on an existing subtype relationship in a logical model. When you create or resolve a Supertype Subtype Identity transformation, the identifying relationships are preserved and the subtype symbol is deleted. No attribute or column is affected by the transformation. The preserved identifying relationships are exposed in both the logical and physical model.

To create an identifying relationship between a supertype and subtype entity with a transformation

  1. Click the subtype symbol Sub-category button on ERwin Toolbox on the diagram.

The Supertype/Subtype Identity icon becomes active on the Transformations toolbar.

  2. Click the Supertype/Subtype Identity Supertype Subtype Identity transformation icon icon.

The subtype relationships are converted to identifying relationships.
