Connect to the Database or Mart

You connect to the target DBMS when you use a feature such as Forward or Reverse Engineering or Complete Compare that requires a DBMS connection. You can also connect to a database when you click Database Connection on the Actions menu.

Use the Connection Manager with CA ERwin Data Modeler Workgroup Edition to connect to the mart to access models and perform administrative functions.

To connect to the database or mart

  1. Click Database Connection on the Actions menu to connect to a database, or click Mart, Connection on the File menu to connect to a mart.

The <Database> Connection or Connection Manager dialog opens.

  2. Complete the following information:
    Database

Specifies the database to which you will connect.

    Authentication

Specifies the type of authentication to use to connect. Select one of the following options:

    Windows Authentication

Uses Windows user names and passwords to secure database access when you are currently logged on to your machine as the user who is the dbo of the database.

Note: This option is available only for Oracle and SQL Server.

    Database Authentication

Lets you enter a User Name and Password for the connection.

    Parameters/Value Options

Lets you specify the parameters and variables to use for your target server.

Note: Since the parameters and variables vary depending on your target server, see the Database Connection Parameters for database-specific information.

  3. Click Connect.

You connect to the selected target DBMS or mart and the connection dialog closes. You remain connected until you click the Disconnect button on the Connection dialog.

Note: If you use ODBC to connect to your target DBMS, you must set up the ODBC driver to point to the database to which you want to connect.
