MAXDS Considerations

Important! The MAXDS parameter cannot be dynamically changed after the LDS files have been allocated and configured. Therefore, use extreme care when calculating this value. Changing this value requires the unloading of your LDS files, reinitializing the Root LDS and appended LDS files with the new MAXDS value, and reloading the data into the LDS files.

To determine the maximum number of reports and MSGCLASS entries that can be held on the LDS files at any one time, consider the following:

The total number from all these factors will be your MAXDS value.

If you are upgrading from a prior release of CA Dispatch, you can execute job DSEXCULP, specifying member DSCULP19, to produce "Report 19 ONLINE VIEWING REPORT (MSGCLASS & REPORTS)" which lists the current number of reports that are in your existing Online Viewing files.

Review the RUN TIME MESSAGES section of the DSEXCULP execution. Within that section is an area that will look similar to the following:

RECORD NAME NUMBER READ
OV-BASE 172
OV-VIEW 509

The NUMBER READ value on the line for RECORD NAME OV-VIEW indicates the number of reports and MSGCLASS that are in the current Online Viewing files. In this example, the value is 509.

Note: You must still estimate and consider the other factors above and add them to this value to calculate your MAXDS.
