Disk-To-Disk Drive Mapping

The Disk-To-Disk Drive Mapping page lets you specify the source operating system and relevant drive mapping information for the slave disk's operating system.

Note: If Windows 2000 is installed on your host computer, then you can migrate only Windows 2000 from the slave disk.

You can specify information in the following fields:

Source OS

Displays the operating system and corresponding drive for the source disk. When you select an option from this drop-down list, appropriate drive names are displayed in the Drive Map area. For example, if the option is WinXP(P), it signifies that the operating system on the source disk is Windows XP and it is installed on the P drive (new mapped drive) of the source disk.

Host

Displays new mapped drive names for the source disk. This column represents the new mapped drive names for the source disk when it is attached to the host computer as a slave disk.

Source

Displays original drive names for the source disk. This column represents the drive names where the slave disk's operating system runs. While providing the drive mapping information in the Source column, consider the following points:

• You can change a drive name based on your requirements. Clicking the Source column displays a complete list of drives (from C to Z) to choose from.
• You can decide not to map any non-OS drive by selecting the blank ("---") option from the Source column. However, you cannot select the blank option for a drive where the operating system is installed; you must map the OS drive. For example, if the Source OS drop-down list shows WINXP(P), and drive P is mapped to drive C, then you cannot select the blank option for drive P. You can map drive P to any other drive.
• CA DMM makes sure that your drive mapping is always unique. It automatically swaps the drive mapping information whenever you change an existing drive. For example, if drive P is mapped to drive C and drive Q is mapped to drive D, and you want to map drive Q to drive C, then drive P will automatically point to drive C.
