You can export the user hierarchy to an XML data file, a spreadsheet, or a command file.
Exporting to an XML file allows you to create an accessible backup of your user hierarchy. You can roll back your user hierarchy by re-importing the hierarchy backup file using Account Import. Exporting to an XML file also allows you to make change to the user hierarchy quickly and efficiently using an XML editor. You can then re-import the updated user hierarchy using Account Import.
To export any branch of the user hierarchy to a specified file type
The Export Hierarchy to File dialog appears.
Note: You cannot export e-mail address details if you choose to export to a ‘Spreadsheet Data File’.
User Export issues
When you export a user hierarchy, be aware of the following issues.
If you export to a command file, we recommend that you do not re-import the exported hierarchy back onto your working CMS. This is because the re-import operation generates warnings in the Account Import log file.
Each line in the exported file is a command (for example, newutility, newuser or newgroup), to add data to the database where that data already exists. If you re-import this file onto your CMS, such commands are logged as warnings.
When you export the user hierarchy (or a branch of the hierarchy) to a spreadsheet, there are no column headings. For column descriptions, follow the hyperlink below.
Important! The export to a spreadsheet layout will fail if over 10 attributes have been defined for your CA DLP users! We recommend instead that you export to an XML Data File. (Attributes are added and defined in the User Attributes tab of the Options dialog.)
If any of your groups or users have names that contain Far Eastern characters, remember to save your file in Unicode format (that is, select the Unicode check box). This ensures that these characters are preserved in the exported file.
