Memory Constraints When Using Watch

The watch command buffers all data to be sent to the output device. If a large number of systems are being watched on the same output device, and the output device is not fast enough to keep up with the rate of console data, the watch command will use large amounts of system memory to buffer the console messages. In extreme cases, the Console Manager host may suffer memory shortages. This will have adverse effects on the other Console Manager components.

To avoid this, ensure that the output device can accommodate the data rate for the systems being watched. Where possible, use multiple output devices.

Note: Where you specify more than one system, lines of text will be interlaced in the output.
