Locking and Unlocking Consoles

When you connect to the console of a serviced system that is not currently locked by another user, then that system is locked by you, and you can write to the console of that system. Any users who subsequently connect to this console will have read-only access, and receive a message to this effect on their terminal; they can only observe what is happening on the console. This prevents the confusion that would arise if two or more users attempted to issue commands to the same console.

If you receive a message stating you are in read-only mode, you must unlock the serviced system's console (as described in the chapter Using the Monitor Interface) before you are allowed to do any tasks on the serviced system's console. You must have the unlock privilege to do this.
