Define Engine Settings
You can define parameters that apply to the system's services. These parameters are typically configured by CA Business Service Insight support personnel or their representatives.
Click the Engines sub-option to display the Engine Settings page.
Follow these steps:
- In Adapters listener, select the Show informative messages check box to instruct the Adapters Listener to report verbose messages to the system log whenever an event is sent by the adapter and accepted by the listener.
- In the Correlation Engine area, enter the following details:
- In Number of engine instances, the number of calculation engines being used to calculate service levels from raw data opens.
- In Calculate service level every, enter the recommended calculation engine cycle in minutes. In each cycle, the calculation engine calculates the service level for part of the metrics.
- From the When calculation finishes drop-down list, define the behavior of the calculation engine at the end of each calculation cycle, as follows:
- Continue: If a cycle is completed before the end of the period defined in the Calculate service level every field, the calculation engine starts the next cycle immediately.
- Sleep: The calculation engine waits until the period defined in the Calculate service level every field is complete before starting the next cycle. This option saves resources by freeing the CPU to perform other operations.
- From the Scheduling Method drop-down list, define how calculations are prioritized, as follows:
- Smart: Higher priority is assigned to the tracking periods of metric instances (calculations for other time intervals are given lower priority).
- Normal: All calculations have the same priority.
- Select the Limit calculation interval check box, and enter the maximum number of days to calculate at one time. This option can be used to improve performance when long calculation periods are required, such as a year. Calculations are performed in chunks of shorter periods enabling partial results to be displayed quicker in the report.
- Select the Limit the amount of memory used by the calculation engine check box to control the amount of memory that can be consumed by the calculation engine, and enter values as follows:
- Start freeing memory when it exceeds: When memory usage reaches this upper threshold, memory is freed for other processes until it drops to the lower threshold.
- Stop freeing memory when it drops below: No additional amounts of memory are freed below this lower threshold.
- In the Penalty writer area, enter the amount of minutes for the penalty writer cycle in the Calculate penalties after every field. All the penalties will be calculated each cycle, even if the calculation time exceeds the cycle time.
- In the System Log Eraser area, select the check box to enable the task parameter fields, and then define the number of days between log deletions for each message type. The most important message levels are listed first. The time and date of the last deletion opens in the Last activation date field.
- Click Save.
The engine settings are saved.
