Translation Scripts

You can work with two kinds of scripts: Translation Scripts and Integration Scripts (both are referred to as "Translation Scripts"). The difference between them is that scripts of the "Translation" type work with Translation Entries; scripts of the "Integration" type do not work with Translation Entries.

Translation Scripts speed up the process of mapping new IT and business resources into CA Business Service Insight. The translation script automatically identifies and translates resources allowing for quick and efficient resource mapping. This translation script enables the user to apply scripts that automatically identify new resources in the system. This script also supports the interface to CMDBs, enabling the system to identify resources that are based on their configured definition. Automatic translation has a number of benefits, including easing the maintenance of translations and preventing errors. The translation script can be used to create a resource version, add new sites, and allocate changes. In addition, a translation script can:

• Translate entries to existing objects.
• Add & translate objects according to existing entries.
• Create objects and translate entries that are based on tables outside CA Business Service Insight. For example, you could create objects that are based on resource tables of clients in the client database.
• Check if an object exists.
• Create resources with all their attached objects like resource types, resource groups, contract parties and services.

The Tools component lets the user control the database transactions that are opened in this component.

Using other CA Business Service Insight COM Objects, open other transactions, and in these transactions the commit are done whenever a method is finished. Updates already committed are not touched when an error occurs in the middle of the script. Only the updates in the effected method are rolled back.

The script can be run in the following cases:

• When receiving a new translation request (a new translation entry).
• Every X hours/days.
• When the user activates it from the scripts page. (Run Now)
• When the user activates it on entries that were selected on the translation entries page.
• In the first three cases, the script runs only on entries defined in the filter. In the last case, the script runs only on the checked entries.

The scripts are run according to a predefined order.

Note: "Default Translation Script" is initial data and cannot be edited. This data is localized.
