Custom attributes is an infrastructure for creating attributes on the fly. Custom Attributes stores information that can be viewed and then used it in business logic calculations of the service level. For example, you can create a custom attribute called Criticality. Using this new attribute, you can assign different thresholds to Criticality.
Custom attributes can be attached to contract templates, contracts, resources, resource groups and service definitions.
An example of a custom attribute that can be attached to all resources or resource groups is Business Unit Ownership. Each resource has a business unit owner (IT, Finance, etc).
An example of a custom attribute attached to a resource or resource group through the resources of a certain type is a Location custom attribute may be assigned to all resources of type Server or Router.
Custom attributes for resources have three possible value types: text, number or text from predefined values. Custom attributes for resource groups do not have value types.
Custom attributes can be defined as mandatory fields for certain resource and optional for others.
