Add a Resource Group

When defining a resource group you can:

To add a resource group

  1. In the Resources page, click Add New and select Resource Group.

The Resource Group Details page opens.

  2. In the General tab:
    1. In Resource Group Name, type a unique name for the resource group.
    2. In Display Name, type a name that is displayed in the reports. If the field is not filled, the resource group name is taken as the display name.
    3. In Description, type a description of the resource group.
    4. In Change Set, select a change set from the drop-down list. This change set is the default change set for the resource group. To add a new change set, click Add Change Set. For more information about adding change sets, see Adding a Change Set.
    5. In Effective Date, set an effective date for the resource group. The effective date (and time) is for when the resource group becomes effective. It can be retroactive or a time in the future.
  3. In the Details tab:
    1. In Effective, select Yes or No. Setting this field to Yes, tells the calculation engine to consider the resource in calculations (i.e. for this period, the calculation engine takes the resource group into account when performing calculation). For example, the figure below indicates a resource group that has dates with certain statuses. The Orange range is calculated by the calculation engine and the Yellow range is not.

Effective and not effective resource dates

Note: Since every change in a resource group date exists for all the resource group dates to follow, if a specific date is changed to be effective or not effective, all the resource group dates to follow are updated accordingly. In the above example, if the 30/09 is updated to be effective, the resource group is always effective.

    1. In Resource Types, select the resource type(s) of the resource group from the Available list and click to add them to the Selected list. This field can be different between different dates. Assigning a resource type is useful when you need to create a custom attribute that is specific to this resource group and no other ones.
    2. In Resource Groups, assign the resource to a resource group or groups. This updates the relevant group as well.
    3. In Member Resources, assign resources to the group as follows:

    -OR-

Note: You can remove a resource from the Member resources list by selecting it and clicking Remove.

    1. In Services, assign the resource date to a service or services.
    2. In Contract Parties, assign the resource date to a contract party.
    3. Fill in the custom attribute fields, if exist, as required. These attributes are displayed if they were created in the Catalog tab.

Note: When a resource group is allocated to a contract party or service, the individual resources in the group are also allocated. Updating the group with new resources allocates these resources as well.

  4. Click Filter to select different effective dates.
  5. Click Apply to save changes and stay in the current page.
  6. Click Save to save changes and return to the previous page.
  7. Click Cancel to discard changes and return to the previous page.
