Asterisk (*) Masking Character

Use an asterisk (*) as a wild card to represent a single character that is not a blank or a null. Although you can enter an asterisk by itself, it is more likely that you would use it as a masking symbol in a name. You can use an asterisk at any position in a name.

The following example illustrates how you might use an asterisk as a mask in a file name:

If you entered this mask in the file name:

CA Auditor would show:

ABC*EF

ABCDEF

 

ABC1EF

 

ABCQEF

 

ABC$EF

ABCDEF*

ABCDEF2

 

ABCDEFG

 

ABCDEFQ

 

ABCDEF$

CA Auditor would not show you this file name: ABCDEF
