Masking is substituting a special character in an entry in a field to represent any character or range of characters in that entry. You can use masking when you want to search for a series of items, such as files or programs that have some characters in their names in common. Because it can be extremely time‑consuming to enter each name individually, masking lets you select several items at once by entering a mask name, that is, a common name and a masking symbol.
The asterisk (*) and the dash (‑) masking characters are supported.
