View and edit the properties of the CA Multi-Port Monitor, and perform basic operations on the monitoring device.
Complete the following fields:
Specify the server name for the monitoring device.
If you do not know the server name, type an IP address in the Management Address field and click DNS to resolve the server host name.
If the management console cannot resolve the host name or management address, you can add the monitoring device but you must synchronize the monitoring device in order to start monitoring. If you want to add a CA Multi-Port Monitor that is not accessible, be sure to select the Is Multi-Port Monitor option.
Specify the IP address of the management NIC on the CA Standard Monitor. If you want the management console to receive digest files from a Cisco NAM, specify the management IP address of the management console.
If you do not know the IP address, type the DNS name in the Server Name field and click IP to resolve the IP address.
If the management console cannot resolve the host name or management address, you can add the monitoring device but you must synchronize the monitoring device in order to start monitoring. If you want to add a CA Multi-Port Monitor that is not accessible, be sure to select the Is Multi-Port Monitor option.
Specify the address that the management console uses to drill down to the CA Multi-Port Monitor for session analysis. This setting allows the management console to communicate with the CA Multi-Port Monitor on one address, while providing user drill-down links on a different address or FQDN. Use this setting when, for example, your environment has network address translation (NAT) in place, or your environment requires the use of FQDN on drill-down links. Enter this address as either an IP address, hostname or FQDN.
Select this option to add a CA Multi-Port Monitor. This option is displayed when the management console cannot contact the monitoring device by host name or IP address.
Select this option to configure an additional Monitor NIC to monitor asynchronous routing; that is, monitoring out traffic on one SPAN and in traffic on another. The two streams are usually interwoven; therefore, you would usually not want to use multiple Monitor NICs with two independent streams.
Specify the IP address of the CA Standard Monitor’s monitor port. This setting does not apply to the CA Multi-Port Monitor.
If the Enable Multiple Monitor NICs option is selected, two Monitor Address fields are displayed.
If you want to maximize the available resources on the monitoring device, for example, to receive packet digest files from a NI GigaStor, leave this field blank and clear the Disable Packet Monitoring option.
Choose a monitoring device incident response to specify how the management console responds to an incident condition on the CA Multi-Port Monitor.
Choose an option to enable or disable availability monitoring.
If you choose this option, the management console creates an Unavailable monitoring device incident when the management console cannot contact the monitoring device for more than 5 minutes. By default, this option is enabled.
The management console does not monitor availability on this monitoring device.
The list of monitor feeds corresponds to the logical ports on the CA Multi-Port Monitor. Manage each monitor feed, including:
to specify the domain for untagged traffic on the monitor feed.
If you are not using domains to separate duplicate IP traffic, this is not applicable.
To pair a secondary monitor feed, click
and then click the Secondary. Avoid data duplication by only assigning a secondary monitor feed that sees the same traffic that the monitor feed sees,
