Defining the Vault Pattern Description Data Set (VPD)
The VPD is a physical sequential 80 LRECL data set. It may be a single sequential file or an 80 LRECL member of a PDS.
Four control statements describe the off-site locations for VMS control, the data sets to be moved, and the desired movement. In addition, comments may be placed within the VPD to document the pattern content. The control statements and comment statements must begin in position 1.
- The Vault Name control statement defines location IDs (vaults) for use by VMS. The OUTCODE keywords (blank)LIB and LIBR do not need to be specified. The maximum number of slots for each vault may be defined.
- The Data Set Name control statement identifies the data sets to be controlled by VMS. Explicit data set names or CA 1 pattern masking specifications can be used.
- The Vault Pattern control statement specifies the location ID (vault) and period of retention for each data set under VMS control.
- The VOLUME or Cataloged Data Set Name control statements designate specific volume or volume sets that need to be moved to an off-site location, without regard for rules.
- The comment statement allows you to insert comments documenting your vault pattern. An asterisk (*) in position 1 is used to designate a comment, and the text for a comment may appear anywhere between positions 2 and 80 inclusive.
