TMSVMEDT is one of several batch programs that comprise the CA 1 Vault Management System (VMS). These programs are executed in the following order:
CA Earl sample member TMEVLT01 is provided for the picking list, TMEVLT02 is provided for the distribution list, and TMEVLT03 is provided for the inventory list.
The Administration Guide provides a comprehensive discussion of the VMS.
The TMSVMEDT utility executes first in the VMS cycle and processes the Vault Pattern Description data set (VPD), validating and cross-referencing your site-defined movement data. Next, the TMC records associated with VMS control are selected and placed in a work file. TMSVMEDT produces TMS Report 23 - Vault Pattern Data Set, which describes the VPD and any errors it may contain. A sample of this report appears on page 462. Complete instructions for coding a VPD are included in the following discussion, Defining the Vault Pattern Description Data Set.
TMSVMEDT should be executed only after all tapes to be vaulted have been created. Otherwise, movement may not be complete, especially when a multivolume data set is still in creation. When TMSVMEDT selects the TMC records, only those volumes that have already been created and the volume still on the drive can be moved. Volumes created subsequently are not moved until the next VMS execution. However, if a second execution of VMS is done later the same day, those additional volumes will be picked up and will join the first volume(s) at the correct off-site location.
Once the movement specified by the VPD has been completed, the tape(s) are returned to the library automatically.
CA 1 must be active or batch active to process TMSVMEDT.
