Use the TMSMERGE utility to aid data center mergers or decentralization.
This utility performs the second half of a CA 1 split/merge operation by reading an import tape containing information from a sending TMC. This input is created by the TMSSPLIT utility discussed on TMSSPLIT.
Normally, TMC Volume records from the tape overlay the record of the same volume in the receiving (active) TMC after a copy of the existing record is written to a purge data set. If the incoming Volume records have associated DSNBs, unused DSNBs in the receiving TMC are allocated after the Volume record is established. The figure on the next page illustrates the TMC Split/Merge operation. However, if the AIVS= control statement is used, no active TMC records are overlaid. Instead, each volume record read from the import file is assigned a new external VOLSER that is currently in delete status. This requires enough volume records to be in delete status to receive the entire import file. When a new VOLSER is assigned, it is no longer in delete status, so RESTART cannot be used if an abend should occur when using the AIVS= control statement.
CA 1 must be active or batch active to run TMSMERGE. Batch active is the recommended state.
The following diagram illustrates the TMC Split/Merge:
