TMSSPLIT Utility—Select Data from the TMC for Use by TMSMERGE

Use the TMSSPLIT utility to perform the first half of a CA 1 split/merge operation, creating an export tape of TMC records to be used by TMSMERGE import as an import data set for another TMC.

TMSSPLIT must be presented with a list of the volume serial numbers that are to be merged into the other TMC. Additional volumes may be included from outside the input list to satisfy TMSSPLIT SCRATCH control statement requirements.

When TMSSPLIT captures a Volume record for a tape containing secondary files, the TMC DSNB records for those data sets are also captured and placed on the export tape. TMSSPLIT also provides the functions of marking selected volumes out-of-area as the export tape is being created, or expiring the Volume records, making them available for scratch processing by TMSCLEAN. The flowchart on Report Description illustrates the TMC Split/Merge operation.

TMSSPLIT requires a list of volume serial numbers as input. Multivolume data sets are automatically accommodated by TMSSPLIT.

CA 1 must be active or batch active to run TMSSPLIT.
