Resetting Data Sets Expired by Catalog Control

The RESETCAT option processes all data sets that have been expired by Catalog Control. Expired by Catalog Control is indicated in the TMC Volume Record when the X'08' bit is on in FLAG2. DSNB records are expired by Catalog Control when the X'20' is on in FLAG1.

This option should be used only when tapes are still cataloged, and have been expired by the utility TMSCTLG. This might occur if a system catalog containing tape data sets was not available or provided to TMSCTLG. The use of the RESETCAT option must be performed prior to executing TMSCLEAN with the SCRATCHLIST option, since multivolume and multifile chains are cleared during the SCRATCHLIST process.

The RESETCAT option produces the EARLOUT flat file, which can be used in a subsequent step (CA Earl TMECLN05) to produce a listing of TMC Volume and DSNB data sets that are processed by RESETCAT. Each data set will have its expiration date changed back to CATALOG, and the expired by Catalog Control indicator in the Volume and DSNB record is turned off.
