CA 1 SMF Queue (SMFQ)

Use the CTS SMFQ subtask if you process hundreds of tape jobs concurrently. SMFQ improves the performance of the TMC update processing for z/OS catalog events.

When SMFQ starts, CA 1® Tape Management does the following:

• Obtains storage for an in-memory (ECSA) queue.
• The CA 1® Tape Management SMF exit (IEFU83 exit) checks for the availability of the queue.
• The CA 1® Tape Management SMF exit places catalog and uncatalog requests in the queue.
• The SMFQ subtask processes the requests in the queue.

This results in more efficient processing of catalog and uncatalog activity because of the reduced RESERVE activity against the TMC and z/OS catalog.

To enable this feature start the new subtask; no additional system options are required.

Before starting SMFQ, ensure that the following conditions are met:

• TMSINIT has started and CA 1® Tape Management is either ACTIVE or BATCH ACTIVE.
• The CTS started task has UPDATE level access to the YSVCUNCD resource if YSVC is set to YES or EXT.
