CA1_VRFY_MIXED_EXPDT_OPTION

Description

This check alerts users of situations where the mixing expiration date is being done so that it can be followed up and corrected. The default interval for this check is run once at startup and the exception interval is every 24 hours.

Best Practice

Mixed expiration dates should be avoided as they can result in situations where a file is scratched prematurely or retained longer than necessary. CA 1 resets the expiration date in the TMC volume record, if a secondary data set is created using a higher date. This higher date is set in the volume record and becomes the controlling expiration date for all files on the volume. CA recommends that you set the CA 1 System Option MIXEXP to WARNING or DISALLOW. You can identify these situations and make appropriate changes to the application that is creating the tapes.

Message

TMSH0081E Your CA 1 option MIXEXP is not set to WARNING or DISALLOW. Mixing expiration dates during the creation of secondary files on a single or multi-volume data sets may result in premature scratching of volumes. For more information, see the Message Reference Guide.
