RETAIN Command—Set Expiration Date from Creation Date

Use the RETAIN command to set the expiration date of a volume to a specified number of days from the creation date.

Setting the expiration date of a volume or DSNB record to a specified number of days from the creation date can be performed with the following commands.

From the system console, this command has the following format:

nn,'U,vvvvvv,RETAIN,dddd[,DSN=dsname]'
nn,'U,DSNB xxxx,RETAIN,dddd[,DSN=dsname]'

From a non-system console, this command has the following format:

U,vvvvvv,RETAIN,dddd[,DSN=dsname]
U,DSNB xxxx,RETAIN,dddd[,DSN=dsname]

The value dddd is the number of days to retain the data set from the tape's creation date. TIQ responds with the following:

VOLSER=vvvvvv DSN=dsname
EXPDT=oldvalue WILL BE CHANGED TO creation.date+dddd
