If a contiguous range or ranges of TMC records are no longer in use, they can be removed using the TMSXTEND or TMSREMOV utilities. TMSXTEND is the preferred method of removing volume ranges because it can perform this function without stopping tape processing. You can be required to use TMSREMOV to delete unused volume ranges if you use nonstandard alphanumeric VOLSERs.
Note: For more information about the TMSXTEND utility and the restrictions on nonstandard VOLSERs, see the Utilities and Reports Reference Guide.
Before the execution of TMSREMOV, stop all tape processing and all CA 1 batch and online activity. Place CA 1 into a batch active mode.
Important! This critical process structurally modifies the TMC. The procedures for TMSXTEND and TMSREMOV are documented in the Utilities and Reports Reference Guide. The procedures should be only performed by the personnel responsible for the installation and maintenance of CA 1.
