At a disaster recovery site, CA 1 usually cannot initialize due to the lack of a valid TMC or Audit data set. In most instances, deactivate CA 1 to allow you to perform your data set restorations without interference.
During your restorations of the DASD, you can restore the volumes with the TMC and Audit files on them. Consider which is the more current copy of the TMC, the full volume backup or the TMSCOPY backup. A full volume backup of the TMC or a TMC restored from a TMSCOPY backup with the PARM of NOAUDIT can contain pointer errors. Resolve the errors before starting tape processing. If either of these methods are used, run TMSPTRS or the CTS task named APEC as soon as you have CA 1 active and correct the errors. Otherwise you can have tape jobs abend with a message IEFTMS70 3YY-116 indicating that the DSNB free chain is invalid.
The preferred method for the restoration of the TMC and Audit files requires you to run TMSCOPY to backup the TMC to tape. Then run an IEBGENER of the full Audit file to tape. The steps to accomplish this backup and restore are:
At production site:
At DR site:
This method eliminates the need to run TMSPTRS and correct pointer errors in the TMC before starting tape processing.
