Sizing the machine that will host the CA TM Server is important to ensure effective management. Depending on the size of your organization and the internal requirements, the CA TM Server does not necessarily have to be a server class system. However, it should ideally reside on a machine that is dedicated for this purpose.
CA performance testing provides the following examples for a single CPU and multiple CPU server class Windows system as the host machine for the CA TM Server:
Manages approximately 5,000 clients with a 20% margin before the system reaches maximum capacity during the subnet discovery process.
Manages approximately 15,000 clients with a 25% margin for growth before the system reaches maximum capacity during the subnet discovery process.
Other factors that can affect these guidelines include:
Peak demand conditions do occasionally occur, but the CA TM Server adjusts for that and, when it becomes too busy to handle a given request, it can safely refuse to service a particular client request until resources become available.
Note: See the readme file for the latest operating system and hardware requirements for the CA TM Server and CA TM Agent.
