A virtual machine is a machine definition that references one or more existing real machine definitions. By defining virtual machines and submitting jobs to run on those machines, you can specify run-time resource policies (or constraints) at a high level and ensure that CA Workload Automation AE automatically runs those policies in a multi-machine environment.
